Stow Summer Music
Stow Summer Music is a series of daytime live music events over the summer in Stowmarket Town Centre funded by Stowmarket Town Centre Partnership. Following a successful run in 2011 which featured some truly brilliant acts including Kidnap Alice, The Vagaband, Reb Capper, Back Porch, Jake Morley, Feral Mouth, Ash Cole, Dave Collins, Lydia Lockyer, Lucy Sampson and Dan Hunter, we're helping the Town Centre Partnership to do it all again this year. Stow Summer Music 2012 will take place in the Meadow Centre oppositite Costa every Saturday throughout August between 11am and 2pm. Each event will consist of a band supported by a solo performer. The bands are all confirmed and are as follows:
Saturday August 4th:
The Phil Jackson Rock N Roll Band
The Phil Jackson Rock N Roll Band is the most authentic example of raw 1950s, barrelhouse, Rock N Roll, Blues and Country you will find anywhere. With Phil Jackson sporting frenzied Jerry Lee Lewis style piano and vocals, backed by Richard Tyler's fiery 'Chuck Berry' licks on guitar and an undeniable back beat, The Phil Jackson Band was made for a party atmosphere. Covering classics from such artists as Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins, The Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Fats Domino, The Beatles, TRex, Ricky Nelson, Roy Orbison & Buddy Holly... The Phil Jackson Band makes sure real Rock N Roll is here to stay!
Support: Ellie Jamison. 'Soulful harmonies, heartfelt lyrics, folk/soul singer Ellie Jamison has been singing and performing since she was 9 years old. Over the years she has worked with many established artists around the UK. Originally an Oxford girl, she is currently working on her solo acoustic act in Suffolk where she now lives. Ellie blends Folk and soul into her own original style. She is currently working on her first EP, as well as performing in local venues in and around Suffolk UK.
Saturday August 11th:
Dr Bluegrass and the Illbilly 8. Dr Bluegrass and the Illbilly 8 are a group of Bluegrass players from Brighton. Gifted with the ability to perform anywhere and under any conditions, they have brought their exciting live show to all sorts of venues, from festival tents to night clubs, street corners to bars. Just as comfortable performing as an acoustic trio in a cosy bar as they are playing as a full 8 piece amplified band, Dr Bluegrass and the Illbilly 8 are able to offer a setup to suit any event. Guaranteed to excite your children, dazzle your friends and bamboozle your peers, they offer additional lectures in bluegrass philosophy as well as fantastic opportunities for foot stompin', thigh slappin' and hand clappin' exercises. Dr Bluegrass and the Illbilly 8 are happy to travel far afield to show off their energetic take on bluegrass music - as they have for Stow Summer Music! With their wide selection of jaunty tunes and their frenetic stage show you won't be disappointed!
Support: Dave Collins. Dave Collins can normally be found playing drums and guitar and singing as part of the popular Stowmarket trio Zoom Club. Today though he will be delivering a couple of short solo sets of self-penned numbers and covers in his classy, laid back, Jack Johnson-esque style.
Saturday August 18th:
The Vagaband. The Vagaband describe their music as roots music; a soulful mix between country, blues, swing and rock. The songs sometimes fit neatly in the Americana bracket though always with an underlying Britishness. The past two summers have seen them amass a very respectful following across the UK festival scene. Appearances include Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Bestival, Camp Bestival, & Maverick Festival.
Support: Hannah Scott. You can't say she sounds like anyone you've ever heard before but somehow it feels like you've known these songs all your life. Finalist in the MOJO Magazine New Voice competition and opening act for artists such as Ed Sheeran and Seth Lakeman, Hannah Scott's original folk-pop music is not to be missed!
Saturday August 25th:
Back Porch. Write up to appear here.
Support: Greg Fitch. Greg Fitch is a local musician and teacher. He is mainly a guitarist but he also sings and plays drums and bass. You may know him from the various bands he has played with such as 23X, Roxoff, Ozzie and Da Reason. Greg was once dubbed "a human IPod" at a friends barbecue he can play pretty much any song (although he found the theme-tune to neighbours a little tricky!) Come and see if he can play your favourite song!
