Ellis Group Acoustic Stage PDF Print E-mail
We're delighted that building contractors Ellis Group have agreed to sponsor the acoustic stage at StowFest 2009. You can find out more about Ellis Group by clicking on the logo.

As well as Ellis Group, Mid Suffolk Action in Partnership (MAP) are again providing the marquee for the acoustic stage. MAP are a Stowmarket based charity who provide help and support to voluntary and community groups throughout Mid Suffolk. Visit their website here.

Once again, we are extremely grateful to James Partridge who is organisng the Acoustic Stage. James runs an acclaimed acoustic club in Kelvedon, "Live at the Institute". He is also the lead singer of East Anglian acoustic pop-folk legends "Songs From The Blue House"

The line up for the Ellis Group Acoustic Stage has been confirmed as follows:

12pm – 1pm Amplitude acts
Including Ruth and Jake and many more.

1.15 - 1.45 Lisa Ambrose
misslisaambrose (19) is a singer / songwriter from Bungay, who has only been playing music since January 2008. In May 2008 she won the Battle of the Bandstands competition in Liverpool and opened up for the Mark Ronson in front of 2000 people.

2pm - 2.45
Kevin Pearce
Having already extensively performed within the UK, (supporting the likes of Scott Matthews, Sandi Thom, Neil Halstead and Boo Hewerdine) receiving BBC radio airplay, and now internationally known after his tour on the east coast of America ( playing alongside Everclear, Nada Surf, Andrew WK, Saul Williams, and The Sugar Hill Gang ), Kevin is now focusing on the release of his debut album later this year.

3pm - 3.45 Sarah Holmes
Sarah is an acoustic singer/songwriter from Northumberland who has been writing for almost 10 years. She gigged regularly up north, mainly in Newcastle city centre and surrounding areas. Sarah studied a Foundation Degree in Music Performance at Newcastle College Performance Academy and graduated with a distinction in the summer of 2007. Now living in Stowmarket, Sarah is looking to make her mark on the local music scene and as well as StowFest, is booked in for a slot at Stowmarket Carnival in July.

4pm - 4.45pm The Proposition
The Proposition’s sound is described as a uniquely English take on acoustic-Americana, offering instantly hummable modern folk songs that explore dark stories through the prettiest of tunes, and all driven by stirringly energetic performance.

5pm - 5.45 Kiss the Mistress
Contemporary Euro/Celtic folk trio driven by voice, cello, accordion and bodhran, play with an 'unrestrained energy and barely bridled fervour'. Strange time signatures abound, songs about merman and frogs, tunes about awkward sprites and plastic bags! 'Inventive, inspirational, polished and very professional - an absolute joy to listen to' (Tracks Mayfest review.)

6pm - 6.45
The White Gospel
The White Gospel are an established 4 piece from Essex, who's French-English frontman David Arscott, writes classic songs that seem to reflect the emotional melancholy of suburban life, from the word on the street to the crushing wheels of the rat race. With an acrobatic voice; the shimmer and twang of guitars, the jazz-like rhythm section and hymnal organ and piano, TWG deliver a vintage sound with a heartfelt, well studied approach to their special brand of music. Sighting bands from The Smiths, Rufus Wainright, Bill Withers to Jeff Buckley, My Morning Jacket, Coldplay and The Beatles as sources of inspiration for the tapestry of colours that paint the canvas of their hook laden, melodiously rich songs. TWG appeal to a discerning audience in love with music – lost and waiting to be found, or simply hoping to BE lost in something special. With hints of the 60s, 70s and tasteful parts of the 80s, this band makes a relevant noise with some unique, beautiful art.

The releases so far – two ep’s ‘Daybeauty ep’ and ‘Lift off ep’ coupled with the album ‘A Northern Light’ reveal that TWG whisper in the rafters and bellow in the street with the evocative language needed to tell their tales - described as ‘tender epic music’- from the gutter to the stars.
