The 2008 StowFest will see the addition of a third stage. The MAP Acoustic Stage will feature some excellent acoustic acts from around the region providing a more relaxing musical alternative to the other stages. The following acts will be appearing on the acoustic stage (running order to be confirmed):
12.00pm - 12.30pm Tom Parkes
"Grew up on the mean streets of Reading where I had to hustle every day just for my next meal. Then one day some cowboys came to to town with a pair of pliers and a blow torch. They said "Play Parkesy, play", so I played. Finger-lickin' chicken pluckin' music would never be the same again. Yee ha."
12.35pm - 1.15pm Black Flowers
Black Flowers is the new name for Cliff n Prue, a brother and sister duo from Cambridge formed in early 2006. Having been in several bands over the previous 5 years, Cliff and Prue decided to give it a go alone and strip everything back down to acoustic guitar, violin and vocals. With eclectic influences from the British Indie scene to their love of Americana folk, blues and country music, The Black Flowers try to create something a little different.
1.30pm - 2.10pm Songs From The Blue House
Songs from the Blue House are some people that make music without worrying too much about what sort of music it is. They live in Essex and Suffolk and released stuff on their own label, Blue House Records before joining the stable at the delightful High Barn Records for the new album 'Tree'. You can listen to more clips and buy CDs at their website - www.songsfromthebluehouse.com.
2.20pm - 3.00pm Hannah Scott
Back home in Suffolk in late 2005, Hannah met BBC Radio Suffolk's Stephen Foster at a 'Suffolk Songwriters' evening. He subsequently invited her into the studio to perform on his drivetime show and introduced her to Pat Grueber at Gemini Studios in Ipswich. They began working on Hannah's debut album, Till Angels Fall, with a sprinkling of magic dust from some great local musicians including Jools Holland's guitarist, Mark Flanagan. The album was launched in July and it is now available to purchase via www.hannahscott.co.uk
Since then Hannah has been gigging extensively in London - where everyone knows the streets are paved with gold! - and has been fortunate to play in some great venues including The Bedford, The Regal Room, The Cobden Club, The Troubadour and The Soho Revue Bar.
3.05pm - 4.05pm Amplitude Acts
4.20pm - 5.00pm Marina Florance
Marina's album " Somewhere Down The Line" is now available from all major outlets. The album was recorded at High Barn Studios in Great Bardfield, Essex. It is Marina's first solo album and contains fourteen great tracks. Marina's guitarist Mick Kennedy and several fantastic session musicians have contributed their time and talents, a huge amount of effort has been poured into the arrangement and production and the result "be prepared to be blown away".
5.10pm - 5.50pm Ragged String Band
The Ragged String Band play a glorious brew of old time, country, blues and folk music.
They mostly play pubs and festivals, and busk the mean streets of east anglia. If you'd like to book us, or be on the email list for gigs drop us a line.
6.00pm - 6.50pm Darwyn
Darwyn are a 4 piece pop/rock band from Halstead in Essex. Matt Cardle on Acoustic Guitar and lead vocals, Richard Grace on Piano, Alistair McMillan on Drums and Gareth Crane on Bass. They formed in September 2005 with their first EP ‘ Straight to the A Game’ which was well received. In 2006 they completed their first album titled ‘When You Wake’. In 2007 the band went in a slightly different direction musically and created their second EP ‘Little Sunlight’.
THANKYOU!
We're extremely grateful to James Partridge who is booking acts for the acoustic stage. James runs an acclaimed acoustic club in Kelvedon, "Live at the Institute". He is also the lead singer of East Anglian acoustic pop-folk legends "Songs From The Blue House" who played at StowFest 2007 so he is the ideal man to organise the acoustic stage.
We are also grateful to Louise Fairbrother from Stowmarket based charity, Midsuffolk Action in Partnership (MAP), who will be assisting James with booking the bands and organising the stage on the day. Louise is also arranging for MAP's marquee to be used to house the stage.
WHO ARE MAP?
MAP are a charity, based at the Red Gables Resource Centre in Stowmarket, whose role is to provide help and support to voluntary and community groups throughout Mid Suffolk. Visit the MAP website to find out more information about their work.
